OCAC Alumni Receive Award of Excellence at American Craft Show

March 4, 2018

Two Oregon College of Art and Craft alumni were recently honored with the Award of Excellence at the 2018 American Craft Show in Baltimore.

Recent graduate Sara Thompson (BFA '17) received the Award of Excellence for quality of work. Sara was accepted into the American Craft Council's American Craft Shows to exhibit her thesis work of 21 silver vessels and 18 silver spoons, which were also on display at OCAC's thesis exhibition in Portland.

Amarette Gregor, who received her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Craft from OCAC, also received the SNAG (Society of North American Goldsmiths) Award of Excellence in Jewelry and Metal.

From a pool of more than 650 incredibly talented makers, only 12 were chosen to be honored with awards. The awards were juried by Maegen Black, director of the Canadian Craft Federation; Kristin Muller, executive director of Peters Valley School of Craft; and Jennifer Zwilling, curator of artistic programs at the Clay Studio.

For more than 75 years, the American Craft Council has championed craft. ACC was founded to recognize the significant impact craft has on individuals and communities, and to preserve, cultivate, and celebrate this communal heritage.
