Jennifer Pepper Kocsis

Kocsis views the topic of trash or garbage through the spiritual teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. She uses the practice of suffering as a necessary path towards happiness and a source of creativity in her art. Kocsis applies her skills as an artist to a process of transforming consumption and negligence into awareness, insight into art. The artist states: “To see trash as sacred is a radical idea, and to equate garbage with people is provocative.” To make art out of trash was Kocsis’s greatest challenge: picking up garbage and creating shadow paintings of waste. Finally, she stretches her art to begin the process of understanding the materiality of trash in new ways.
