May Reid-Marr

Reid-Marr conceived of and executed this project with the goal of creating a dialogue between individuals, objects and the environments they occupy, to create a sense of ‘place’. She first explores place as a concept, outlining emotional and practical connections to objects. The artist coins an approach to design, called MAYWAY, a means to increase engagement through building place and giving it a deeper meaning, over time. Using the MFA Applied Craft+Design shared kitchen, as the subject for as a case study, Reid-Marr tests MAYWAY’s viability as a method to facilitate stewardship and to build place. The artist’s ultimate goal is to develop critical inquiry of objects and place, resulting in a deeper sense of place for all.
