Rebecca Gore

Gore asserts that in order to find Community, one must first locate the self. She reflects upon the actions that occur at the dinner table and relates that process that occurs during a communal meal occurs during the pursuit of the self. The artist asserts that empathy is necessary in order to have community. The quest for community can be gained from third person reflection; seeing oneself as ‘other’. Gore materializes her thoughts with clay, plaster and class, exploring the three steps of gathering, using and sharing. She creates clay vessels, plaster hand casts, a glass goblet. The artist concludes that she has manifested the process of finding, knowing, and becoming the self, hoping that community is not far behind.
