William Martin Whitehead

For his thesis body of work, Whitehead aimed to draw attention to the viewer’s standards of perfect or flawless furniture. He utilized nuances of what people qualify as a flaw inside and outside of the home. Whitehead created four pieces that from wood and added various flaws. These included a table leg that had been chewed on by a dog, a desk that’s been laser cut with graffiti, a bench covered with street art graffiti, and a telephone booth adorned with stickers featuring local Portland artists.
